CRUSH Holy Clover – 20lbs
Description
Description
Drought tolerance, heat resistance, and did we mention drought tolerance? That is what puts CRUSH Holy Clover in a league of its own when it comes to perennial food plots. This blend is a mix of sainfoin, alfalfa, and clover that can withstand extremely low moisture throughout the growing season due to its deep taproots. Varieties in this blend are commonly planted in the western US where they cannot reach with irrigation lines. Another great attribute about Holy Clover is its longevity. One planting can last up to 10 years if managed properly to reduce weedy competition. This blend of lush perennials takes a licking and keeps on ticking when faced with heavy browse pressure. This blend has clover and alfalfa varieties that were hand-picked by Lee Lakosky to be the most effective clover/alfalfa plot you can buy.
It can grow in less-than-ideal soil conditions. Holy Clover will stay green well after a frost and is a great source of protein for bucks growing antlers and lactating does. The alfalfa in this blend is not only drought tolerant but is also non-bloating, meaning it’s easier for deer to digest.
This blend can be hunt ready within 3 weeks of planting.
For best results, plant 6-8 weeks before the average first frost in the fall. For spring planting, plant any time after the threat of frost. We DO NOT recommend frost seeding this blend due to the large size of the seed. Here is a handy frost calculator to know when to plant: https://www.almanac.com/gardening/frostdates
Time planting so there is a good soaking rain within 10 days of planting. This will ensure timely germination and prevent seed loss to turkeys and other birds. We recommend having soil pH between 6.0-7.5 for this product. Without a soil test, we recommend putting 300 lbs of 13-13-13 per acre. We recommend using a Sainfoin inoculant to give the seeds a jump start if the field has never been planted in Holy Clover before.

NURSE CROP
Holy Clover can be mixed with Amazin’ Grains at the time of planting if you want to use the “nurse crop” seeding technique. The cereal grains will grow taller than the clover/alfalfa to begin with and allow the young clovers and alfalfa to devote energy into root growth. The following spring the plot can be mowed just before the Amazin’ Grains goes to seed, and it will be eliminated from the plot.
