CRUSH Clover Plus Alfalfa
Description
Description
If you want a fast-growing, highly attractive food plot that will bring in deer and turkeys all spring and fall, CRUSH Clover Plus Alfalfa is the one for you. Our blend of lush perennials and an annual takes a licking and keeps on ticking when faced with heavy browse pressure. This blend offers the perfect tradeoff for not knowing what weather you will get during the growing season. In wet years, the clover will flourish and in drought years, the alfalfa will dominate. These varieties have the perfect mixture of attraction and longevity. If you properly maintain the plot to keep out weed species, you can expect up to 5 years out of a single planting of CRUSH Clover Plus Alfalfa. This blend has clover and alfalfa varieties that were hand-picked by Lee Lakosky to be the most effective clover plus alfalfa blend you can buy.
The biomass of this blend allows for planting in small hidey hole food plots where browse pressure is high. It can grow in less-than-ideal soil conditions. Clover will stay green well after a frost and is a great source of protein for bucks growing antlers and lactating does. The alfalfa in this blend is highly drought tolerant and is also non-bloating, so it’s easier for deer to digest.
This blend can be hunt ready within 3 weeks of planting.
For best results, plant 6-8 weeks before the average first frost in the fall. For spring planting, you can frost seed or plant any time after the threat of frost. Here is a handy frost calculator to know when to plant: https://www.almanac.com/gardening/frostdates
Time planting so there is a good soaking rain within 10 days of planting. This will ensure timely germination and prevent seed loss to turkeys and other birds. We recommend having soil pH between 6.0-7.5 for this product. Without a soil test, we recommend putting 300 lbs of 13-13-13 per acre.
For best results, plant when forecast calls for rain within 10 days of planting.

GREAT NURSE CROP
Clover Plus Alfalfa can be mixed with Amazin’ Grains at the time of planting if you want to use the “nurse crop” seeding technique. The cereal grains will grow taller than the clover/alfalfa to begin with and allow the young clovers and alfalfa to devote energy into root growth. The following spring the plot can be mowed just before the Amazin’ Grains goes to seed, and it will be eliminated from the plot.
