Velvet Mania Is HERE!

Velvet antlers are approaching peak growth and every trail cam picture that rolls in this time of year could be the GIANT you have been waiting for. After many years of trying to attract deer for inventory purposes, here are some of my favorite attractant setups and how I do each one:

The Crush Bundle

The Crush Bundle is a combination of attraction, nutrition, and longevity that is unbeatable when it comes to getting trail cam pics of summer GIANTS.  My favorite flavor to use is Apple, but they all work well anywhere you use them. Here’s how I deploy it: 

• Start with clearing the area of debris and grass that would trip the camera when it’s windy.  
• Set the 20 lb Crush block on one side of the camera frame and the 4 lb Crush brick on the other side so that 2 deer can eat comfortably at the same time.
• Pour half the liquid on the block and the other half on the brick. 
• Pour the granular over all of it. I usually set camera up with 5 minutes between pictures because I like to have the batteries last for months at a time. If you want more pics simply set your interval at 1 minute or less.    

Ani-Supplement Gold

Ani-Supplement Gold is the best deer feed you can buy. It has everything deer need in terms of nutrition and will improve their health so they have a better chance of fighting any disease challenges that might come upon them. I like to use the 20 lb bag of Supplement because it’s a good balance to get enough out there to last between re-supply visits and it’s not too heavy. If there is a spot I can easily drive to then I will bump up to the 50 lb bag. The great part about Ani-Supplement Gold is that it has micro minerals mixed into the grains so it’s highly attractive AND very nutritious. Bucks are busy trying to bulk up ahead of the fall so that when they expend energy during the rut they have a better chance of making it through alive. We also know that for a deer to survive an EHD outbreak they must be in peak physical condition, and this product really helps with that.     

Deer Anthem Molasses 

The combination of a Deer Anthem Molasses Brick with Deer Anthem Granular Attractant poured on top it is an easy way to bring bucks in rapidly. The 5 lb Anthem Molasses brick is like a granola bar for deer. It’s a bit softer than the other larger protein blocks so it doesn’t last as long, but it’s a great way to give your bucks something in-between filling them up with granular attractants. I use this combination when I have a bit further walk into where I want to get bucks on camera.  It’s half the weight of the previous two suggestions, but because it has the brick I can get 2 weeks of attraction power out of this combo.
