A STAR Is Born

In over a decade of research on white-tailed deer, I feel confident in saying I know what deer like and do not like. There aren’t many secrets out there left undiscovered, but this year I got a chance to do something fun with product testing in real time. A couple weeks ago, I heard a rumor about a big buck living in an area off limits to hunting. The landowner was easy to connect with, and I obtained permission to place a camera for research and development purposes. At the same time, we have been storing a tote of left over attractant that was a mixture of Apple, Sugar Beet, and Persimmon Crush that was the result of cleaning out our bins and augers at the end of a production run.

As an experiment, I decided to pour the “Concoction” of these three flavors and test it against our tried-and-true single flavors. The results were shocking. The deer would choose the “Concoction” of flavors over single flavors roughly twice as much. I was lucky enough to capture some daylight pics of the mystery buck during this testing, and he was a real addict on the “Concoction” blend. He gave me several images and seemed to favor the Concoction no matter where I poured it.

As a bonus, there was more than one nice buck roaming that area, and I did capture some good images of him as well. He too was a fan of the mixture of flavors. I think it has to do with the diversity in the blend being more palatable compared to a single flavor. Kind of reminds me of when Lays chips did a seemingly odd combination of chicken and waffle flavors, but the combination of flavors tastes better than if those flavors were by themselves.

Here is a pic of the other big buck using that area:

We have created a new item with this extremely potent mixture of flavors, and it’s available now!  It’s appropriately called CRUSH® Concoction and we are excited for you to give it a try. Trust me, even if you think you’ve got deer dialed in, there’s always a new combination of flavors that will surprise you!
